FDR’s New Deal
The New Deal marked the beginning of America’s era of entitlements. It also implicitly drew the line in the sand with regard to the philosophical difference between the progressive, liberal left, and the conservative, Republican right. The New Deal marked the first time one of the two major parties (the democrat party) put its marker down in favor of a government that is responsible for creating an equality of outcome. The massive budget deficit we face today cannot be erased by way of counter-productive overtaxation. Entitlement spending must be cut. The New Deal was the starting point on what is now an 80 year old journey on the road to a welfare state.
